As for clothes and various toiletries for the new arrival, maternity wards generally provide a list of different things to bring. Find out!
On the other hand, there are other little tips that could brighten up your stay in the maternity ward and make breastfeeding easier. So don't miss our little tips for a top-notch suitcase from the start of the 8th month of pregnancy (you never know):
- Some maternity wards allow you to bring a small station to listen to your favorite Zen sophrology music during labor. You can also listen to it with Baby in the room afterwards because he will remember the sounds he already listened to during pregnancy and childbirth, and it will soothe him. 🙂
- A mister
- A fan
- A small bottle of water
- A little snack for dad (cereal bar…) because it might be a long night 😉
- Tissues
- Slippers
- The camera
- A small bedside lamp with soft light (the light in the bedrooms is sometimes unbearable), or a small flashlight…
- Your toiletry bag of course
- A cream for the nipples to prevent possible cracks (ask your gynecologist/midwife for advice)
- A button-up nightgown or wrap-over T-shirt to make breastfeeding easier
- A nursing bra
- Some maternity wards allow you to bring a kettle. This way, you can prepare the breastfeeding herbal tea (see below) in your room.
- If Baby already has a big sister or a big brother, it can be very cute to buy a little gift with your big child that he can give to his little brother/sister at birth (a pretty, soft cuddly toy for example). example). It's also nice to buy a little gift that you can give your big child from the Baby when he comes to visit you at the maternity ward with Dad (if he's still small enough to believe that it's the Baby who brought it to him).
- And don't forget your papers, family record book, vital card, certificate of coverage from the Mutual Fund, various results of medical examinations and ultrasounds, etc. at the last minute.
ALSO TO DO BEFORE:
- Think ahead to find a solution to care for your elders. Consider several possibilities so that you have peace of mind when it happens, no matter the time (even notifying the school of people who are likely to come pick up your children that day… etc.).
- You can install a small “protective tarpaulin” on the passenger seat of your car, in case your water breaks during the journey. 😉
- And of course: don't forget to stock up on Quinte S ens Symbiose oil that you have already consumed throughout pregnancy, because it is also perfectly suited to your diet during breastfeeding!
AND 3 LITTLE TIPS FOR PEACEFUL BREASTFEEDING:
- Galactogenic herbal tea:
You will find tailor-made herbal mixtures in certain pharmacies, which have an herbalist corner. I took a galactogenic herbal tea, a combination of green anise, caraway, fennel and stinging nettle. It's good (it's a change from drinking water all day, because you need to drink a lot during breastfeeding to promote milk production!). Little practical tip: you can prepare a thermos in the morning to easily drink throughout the day. For those with a sweet tooth, adding a teaspoon of honey doesn’t hurt either. 😉
- Breastfeeding pudding:
This is a cushion in the shape of a sausage which is used to support you and your baby during breastfeeding, in order to avoid pain in the back and arms. It is very important to be seated comfortably because the duration of a feeding can be long, and it must be a pleasant moment. In fact, a good position during breastfeeding also limits the risk of cracks.
- Nursing shells:
I had never heard of it until today, when my friend sent me this link: http://www.lesfilleselectriques.com/2012/12/07/decouverte-les-coquillages-dalimentation/
It has looks clever, and I find it super pretty too... if I had known!! I would have liked to try them, because it is true that classic plastic shells are not very glamorous. And the nursing pads aren't very aesthetic either because they distort the silhouette of the chest and sometimes stick to the nipple...
...I'm going to have to make a little third one I think 😉
If you want to try, you can find these breastfeeding shells on the site http://www.bebe-nacre.com/ .
And don’t forget to share your experiences with us!
Good luck !
